| Position
in any poker game where the start of action is predicated on the
dealer can be one of the most important aspects of the game. Of
Hold'em Doyle Brunson said; If he could have the button every
deal, he could beat the game without looking at his cards if his
opponents didn't know he wasn't looking.
There is a reason why all of the Hold'em experts list the starting
hands in different groups. Few hands play well from early
position, but from late position, many otherwise marginal hands play
very well and have a great EV, (Expected Value.)
Here are the results of 1,000,000 hands or about 1.5 years of play,
of the hand JT suited. The simulations were run with Wilson
Software's "Turbo Texas Hold'em,"
against the same opponents, and the dealer fixed, in a 1/2 game.
The player profile is one that can be expected to play the hands competently
after the flop.
In early Position: Won $2,049,945 in 268234 pots
In late Position: Won $6,051,479 in 225498
pots (Note: Won fewer pots but almost 3 times the profits.)
Let's look at another example, 4,500,000 hands or about 7 years worth
of playing. Everything else is the same. The hand is the 87
of clubs.
